The Caribbean School of Medical Sciences, Jamaica, administers a comprehensive twelve-semester, four-year MD curriculum. CSMSJ additionally offers a four-semester, ninety-credit Associate of Science in Natural and Applied Sciences program and has plans to introduce post-MD courses. The MD program at the Caribbean School of Medical Sciences Jamaica (CSMSJ) offers flexibility and is thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique interests and aspirations of students. The Doctor of Medicine (MD) Course spans twelve semesters and encompasses both Basic Sciences and Clinical Rotations. These rotations occur at hospitals and Primary Health Care Facilities situated in Jamaica, Cuba, the wider Caribbean region, and the United States.
Students follow a structured timeline, including sitting for the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE) components I, II, and III at specific points during their education. Additionally, students are prepared for the Caribbean Association of Medical Councils Examination (CAMCE), with CSMSJ students boasting a 100% pass rate at this examination. A mandatory one-year internship is also part of the curriculum.

The MD program is divided into two main phases: Basic Sciences, spanning six semesters, and Clinical Rotations, which comprise the subsequent six semesters. These phases are meticulously designed to prepare students for the CSMSJ MD I and USMLE I exams during the Basic Sciences phase and CSMSJ MD II & III and USMLE II/III during the Clinical Rotations phase.
The curriculum includes a robust program to foster technical and professional competence in areas such as understanding disease processes, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and patient rehabilitation.
CSMSJ places considerable emphasis on subjects such as Diabetology and Endocrinology, Public Health, Sports Medicine, Tourism (Health Tourism), and Health Technology as integral components of its offering.
CSMSJ has established partnerships and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the Jamaican government through the Ministries of Health & Wellness, securing clinical sites within Jamaica. Additionally, clinical sites are available in Cuba and the United States.
MOUs have also been formalized with private institutions like Winchester Surgical and Medical Institute and the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, enabling students to gain observational experiences. These MOUs underline CSMSJ’s commitment to maintaining standardized and compliant training sites, adhering to the standards set forth by the World Health Organization (WHO), Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education & Research (FAIMER), and CAAM-HP.
